Longtime Rock Journalist And Founder Of ROCKDETECTOR Web Site GARRY SHARPE-YOUNG Dies At 45
March 14, 2010According to Taranaki Daily News, Garry Sharpe-Young — who worked as a journalist for British, American and German rock magazines, wrote music reference books, biographies for OZZY OSBOURNE and BLACK SABBATH and set up the popular encyclopedic rock music web site Rockdetector (since renamed Musicmight) — died at his home on Friday (March 12) after suffering an aneurism. He was 45 years old.
Sharpe-Young is credited with bringing in top line international acts and revolutionizing Taranaki as a leading events center in New Zealand.
Garry was the founder of G-Taranaki, the guitar festival launched in July 2008. The festival was to take place again in August 11-15 this year with the rumored headline act, guitarist Slash of GUNS N' ROSES fame.
Sharpe-Young got into showbiz by accident when he was about 14 doing artwork on album covers.
